Anxiety and Depression

1964359732It’s another day when you feel like there is no way out.

People around you admire you as they think that you have everything under control.

But deep inside, you know the truth.

You feel the heaviness of all your responsibilities.

You can’t sleep at night and experience thought after thought as if your mind would never stop.

Sometimes you think your heart will jump out of your body.

The constant worry about your family, work, and friends – you’re always thinking something terrible will happen and trying to prepare for the worst.

Even though nothing bad happens that you can’t handle, you can’t stop the worry!

It is like a never-ending spiral…

… once you are in it, you can’t come out.

By now, you know the familiar voice constantly judging you – keeping score of all your shortcomings, trapping you in your head. Replaying what you said to your friend, if you made a mistake at work or school, wondering if people are mad at you?

What if the internal judge is right and you are not good enough?

You have tried everything you can think of. You talk to your partner, your friends, and your family.

You exercise, take deep breaths, but nothing helps.

Once the anxiety spiral starts, there is no way to stop it from taking over. It catches you and takes you up for a spin.

AlbacenterAnxiety is like flying in a balloon without being able to control it.

Sometimes, it can lead to a panic attack.

What if, for you, the opposite happens? And you feel like if you get trapped in the darkest place?

It’s as if the lights slowly start to dim down. You lose energy, and some days you can’t even leave your bed.

It is hard to function; you only want everyone to leave you alone.

You get irritable at the smallest things, and everything bothers you.

What makes it worse is that you can’t concentrate and fear that this will be the end.

Depression is like being trapped wearing a heavy coat, unable to take it off.

Anxiety and depression are like twins who, at times, you can’t tell them apart. Somedays, you might be in the company of one and the next day in the hands of the other.

Sometimes you know why you are feeling the way you are, a breakup, a new job, or family problems, but other times, regardless of how much you try to figure out why you are feeling like this, it just is.

This is when you compare your life to the life of your parents. You recognize that you have much to be grateful for and value all they struggled for you to succeed.

And no matter how much you try to feel good, you feel anxious or depressed.

This is when guilt visits, making things worse. It separates you from the experience of others in your life as it makes you feel ungrateful and selfish for thinking of yourself.

If what you have done in the past has not worked, it is time to try something different.

Therapy will help you identify your feelings and thoughts so you can start figuring out why you feel the way you do.

Being the first person to do something different in your family, like going to college, being in a nontraditional relationship, or leaving the family cradle, is challenging. Having someone who understands your experience is very helpful.

At Alba Center, we will teach you ways to manage your anxiety and depression. We start the process with very practical, evidence-based ways such as CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy). We will also help you map your attachment style, allowing you to understand why you relate to others the way you do.

We recognize the value of the psyche, so we are open to ancient practices that value our ancestral wisdom. Sometimes, the way into deeper self-knowledge is by following the trail of anxiety and depression to its roots, where they will lead the way to healing.

We are ready to embark with you on your inner journey.

You don’t have to do this alone; we are here to help. Life doesn’t have to be full of worry and dread.

You deserve a full life where excitement, happiness, love, and success are part of your experience.
